ORDINANCE NO. 204
SERIES OF 1976
TITLE: AN ORDINANCE TO PERMANENTLY ESTABLISH THE PARKS AND RECREATION
COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO, AND TO SET FORTH THE
DUTIES AND OBLIGATIONS OF THE COMMISSION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO
THAT:
Section 1. Organization.
There is hereby created a Parks and Recreation Commission con-
sisting of six (6) members, appointed by the City Council to serve
without pay. They shall be appointed so as to provide equal represen-
tation for each geographical section of the City of Wheat Ridge as
follows: two (2) members from Ward 1, two (2) members from Ward 2, and
two (2) members from Ward 3.
The first year three members shall be appointed for a term of
two (2) years and the other three members shall be appointed for a term
of three (3) years; thereafter each appointee shall serve for a term of
three (3) years. Upon the approval of the City Council, members may be
appointed to successive terms.
Section 2. Authority
The Mayor of the City of Wheat Ridge does hereby authorize the
Parks and Recreation Commission to enforce any codes and rules and regu-
lations adopted by the City Council for the proper management, operation
and control of the parks, parkways and other recreational facilities
within the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Section 3. Duties
The Duties of the Parks and Recreation Commission shall be:
(a) To regularly consult with the Director of Parks and Recrea-
tion;
(b) To review all existing and proposed legislation relating to
parks and recreation matters;
(c) To promulgate and issue rules and regulations, subject to
the approval of the City Council, for the proper management, oper-
ation and control of the parks, parkways and other recreational
facilities within the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado;
(d) To make recommendations on parks and recreation matters to
the City Council;
(e) To act as a liasnn between the Department of Parks and Recre-
ation and the community at large;
(f) To promote and develop positive relationships with community
groups, other public agencies and the general public;
(g) To encourage the widest possible citizen understanding of
parks and recreation activities;
(h) To seek citizen advice and support for the proper management
and operation of parks and recreation facilities.
Section 4. Effective Date

This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force five (5)
days after publication following final passage providing it shall have
been passed by an affirmative vote of three-fourths of the members of
the City Council, otherwise, said ordinance shall take effect thirty
(30) days after publication following final passage.

reading by a vote of 5 to 0 this 9th da;t of February , 1976.
