HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/24/1972 MINUTES July 24, 1972 A special Council Meeting of the Wheat Ridge City Council was called to order by Mayor Albert E. Anderson at 6 10 p.m. at 7390 West 38 Avenue. Aldermen attending were Dr. Paul Abramson, Jack Bramble, Robert Howard, Calvin Hulsey and Ray Pepe. A notice of the meeting signed by all the Aldermen is attached to the Minutes as proof of notification of the special meeting. Alderman Joseph Donaldson was absent. Also attending were City Attorney Maurice Fox, City Treasurer Malone, Deputy City Clerk Elise McMillen, Director of Public Works Glen Taylor, and interested citizens. The purpose of the special meeting was to discuss emergency repair work on the Marshall Street Bridge which had been closed to traffic. Public Works Director Glen Tavlor stated that the Motion at the previous Council Meeting had requested bids for repair work on the bridge which would take approximately 90 days before work could begin, and that there is a contractor in the area who is set up for work on another job and who could start work tomorrow and have the job completed within approximately three weeks at a cost "well within $20,000.00." The repair work is to make the bridge structurally safe for traffic for the next 4 to 6 years with the present load limit for the bridge. Attorney Fox stated Council may be open to criticism in not allowing proper time for bids to come in which have a total cost on a time and material basis. Alderman Bramble stated he felt immediate action needed to be taken, and that the closing of the bridge was hurting businesses. Motion by Alderman Bramble "I move that Wycon Construction Company be authorized to construct temporary emergency repairs on an emergency basis on the Marshall Street Bridge for a cost not to exceed $10,000.00." Motion was seconded by Alderman Abramson. Alderman Howard stated he would vote against the Motion because they were not following the procedure set out in the purchasing manual for spending public funds over $1,000.00. Question was called and Motion passed 4-1 with Alderman Howard voting "nay " Meeting was adjourned at 6 30 p.m. \ -< (..
