TITLE: AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR HEALTH AND LIFE INSURANCE
POLICIES TO BE OFFERED BY THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE
AS PART OF THEIR BENEFIT PACKAGE TO EMPLOYEES TO BE
MADE AVAILABLE TO ALL INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE SERVED, OR
WHO ARE PRESENTLY SERVING, THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE AS
AN ELECTED OFFICIAL, OR WHO COMPLETED THE UNEXPIRED
TERM OF AN ELECTED OFFICIAL, FROM THE DATE OF THE
CITY'S INCORPORATION THROUGH THE PRESENT, PROVIDING
SAID FORMER OR CURRENT ELECTED OFFICIALS PAY ALL
PREMIUMS FOR SAID POLICIES.
WHEREAS, THE CITY HAS BEEN WELL SERVED BY THOSE WHO HAVE HELD
ELECTIVE OFFICE FROM THE DATE OF INCORPORATION OF THE CITY OF
WHEAT RIDGE IN 1969 THROUGH THE PRESENT;
WHEREAS, THE CITY WISHES TO MAKE AVAILABLE TO SAID FORMER AND PRESENT
ELECTED OFFICIALS THE ABILITY TO PURCHASE THROUGH THE CITY ALL
HEALTH AND LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES AND COVERAGES PROVIDED BY
THE CITY TO CITY EMPLOYEES AT THE COST OF SAID POLICIES AND
COVERAGES;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO:
Section 1. Commencing January 1, 1985, the City of Wheat Ridge
shall contract with the carrier of health and life insurance
coverages selected by the City to provide health and life
insurance coverage to Wheat Ridge employees to provide said
health and life insurance coverages and policies to those
individuals who have served or are serving the City of Wheat Ridge as Elected Officials
officials holding the office of Mayor, City Clerk, City Treasurer,
or City Councilmember, as well as their dependants, or any person
who has been duly appointed to any of said positions to complete
an unexpired term, and their dependants, from the date of
incorporation of the City of Wheat Ridge through the present,
said health and life insurance to be of the same type and amount
as that provided to current City employees; provided, however,
specifically that any former or present elected official as
herein defined and who is not currently covered, who wishes
to acquire said coverages, or either of them, shall reimburse
the City of Wheat Ridge therefore at the full cost of said
coverage.
Section 2. The City Administrator, or his designee, is directed
to specify the within coverage options as alternate bids in all
bids for insurance requested by the City of Wheat Ridge.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect January 1, 1985,
and shall continue in effect until repealed by majority vote
of this or any succesor City Council.
Section 4. Safety Clause. The City Council hereby finds, determines,
and declares that this ordinance is promulgated under the general
police power of the City of Wheat Ridge, that it is promulgated
for the health, safety, and welfare of the public, and that this
ordinance is necessary for the preservation of health and safety
and for the protection of public convenience and welfare. The
City Council further determines that the ordinance bears a
rational relation to the proper legislative object sought to
be attained.

Section 5. Severability. If any clause, sentence, paragraph,
or part of this ordinance or the application thereof to any
person or circumstances shall for any reason be adjudged by
a court of competent jurisdiction invalid, such judgment
shall not affect application to other persons or circumstances.
Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect
after final publication.

7 to 0 on the 23rd day of July ,
1984, ordered published in full in a newspaper of general
circulation in the City of Wheat Ridge and Public Hearing and
consideration on final passage set for August 13
1984, at 7:30 p.m. at Chambers, 7500 West 29th Avenue,
Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
