Home My WebLink AboutResolution-1975-0431 INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN MERKL RESOLUTION NO. 431 Series of 1975 TITLE: RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF FUNDING FOR PEACE OFFICER TRAINING THROUGH ASSESSMENTS ON FINES AND FORFEITURES AND ESTABLISH A BOARD ON PEACE OFFICER STANDARDS AND TRAINING TO ADMINISTER THE DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS FOR PEACE OFFICER TRAINING WHEREAS, the people of the State of Colorado are entitled to the finest trained, skilled, and professional law enforcement officers in the world; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature by statute has mandated certi- fication and training of all Colorado Peace Officers; and WHEREAS, the available resources of the State have been ins~f- ficient to provide adequate funds to meet the existing and ever growing demand for the most basic of training needed for certification without due consideration for advanced training needs; and WHEREAS, there exists a great need to expand the basic course as well as provide training to meet advanced officer, investigative, supervisorial, command, and management needs; and WHEREAS, there is a need to re-establish the Board on Peace Officer Standards and Training appointed by the Governor from advisory to controlling with an Executive Director appointed by and to serve at the pleasure of said Board in order to expand training capabilities to meet the present and future needs of Peace Officers in a transient and highly complex and rapidly changing society; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge endorses the concept of assessing those persons who have generated the need for law enforcement services through a special levy assessed on fines and forfeitures equivalent to House Bill 1179 as adopted by the Oregon Legislature for the exclusive purpose of funding Peace Officer Training, and further endorses the concept of re-establishing the Board on Peace Officer Standards and Training conferring upon them the re- sponsibilitv and authority to allocate these resources and expand the training of Colorado Peace Officers. this DONE AND RESOLVED by a vote of 5 22nd day of December, A.
