DONALDSON RESOLUTION NO. 457 Series of 1975 TITLE: RESOLUTION URGING THE JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO SUBMIT A BALLOT QUESTION TO THE VOTERS OF JEFFERSON COUNTY TO AUTHORIZE USE OF THE COUNTY-WIDE OPEN SPACE SALES TAX FUNDS TO INCLUDE PARKS AND OPEN SPACE DEVELOPMENT COSTS. WHEREAS, the voters of Jefferson County on November 7, 1972, approved a County-wide one-half of one percent (~ of 1%) sales tax for the purpose of planning, acquiring, and preserving Open Space real property for the use and benefit of the citizens in Jefferson County; and WHEREAS, the use of these tax funds did not include develop- ment costs of Parks and Open Space areas; and WHEREAS, the Open Space acquisition program has been highly successful in funding the purchase and preservation of large quantities of land for public use in accordance with the wishes of the voters to the extent that local jurisdictions are no longer able to adequately finance the development costs which become necessary and desirable; and WHEREAS, it has become evident that the County government and the various municipalities need financial assistance in developing and beautifying the Open Space areas acquired; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge hereby endorses and supports the expanded use of Open Space funds to include Parks and Open Space development costs as well as acquisition. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge that the Board of County Commissioners of Jefferson County be hereby requested to formulate and present a ballot proposition to the voters of Jefferson County requesting voter approval to utilize Open Space funds for parks and open space acquisition, maintenance, and development in order to make such properties and areas more accessible, convenient, and useable for the citizens of the various communities in the County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the ballot question be presented in such a manner as to give the local jurisdictions the option of Resolution No. 457 -2- whether County Open Space funds shall be utilized in that jurisdiction for acquisition, maintenance, or development p~rposes without restriction or reservation and at the sole discretion of the local jurisdiction. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that such a ballot question be prepared and submitted by the County Board of Commissioners at the earliest possible opportunity. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to immediately transmit certified copies of this Resolution to all members of the Board of County Commissioners, the County Open Space Committee, the Open Space Director, and to the members of the City Councils of all other Cities in Jefferson County.
