HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1976-0458 INTRODUCE lY COUNCILMAN MERKL RESOLUTION NO. 458 Series of 1976 WHEREAS, there exists a need for citizen input and support for law enforcement; and WHEREAS, the City Council senses the value of citizen under- standing of Police activities; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires citizen input regarding legis- lation which affects law enforcement; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to provide better communica- tion between the City's law enforcement agents and the citizenry; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge hereby establishes a Police Advisory Committee with duties as follows: (a) In consultation with the Chief of Police, to review all existing and proposed legislation which affects Police activi- ties and to make recommendations to the City Council regarding said legislation. (b) To perform public relations functions in helping the citizenry to understand Police activities and the role of the Police Department in the community. (c) To receive, evaluate, and present citizen comments and recommendations regarding Police Department activities in order to promote community support for the Department. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 293 previously adopted by the City Council be and is hereby rescinded. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Committee shall not function as a Police review board and shall not become involved in Police Department personnel matters. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Committee shall have the fol- lowing membership: Two citizeffi of Wheat Ridge nominated from each Ward by the Councilmen of that Ward; one citizen of Wheat Ridge nomi- nated by the Mayor; all appointments must be confirmed by the Council. Each appointment shall automatically expire at the end of one year unless nominated for extension and confirmed by the City Council.
