TITLE: RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE CREATION OF A
METROPOLITAN HOUSING DISTRICT AS PROPOSED BY THE SELECT
COMMITTEE ON HOUSING OF THE DENVER REGIONAL COUNCIL OF
GOVERNMENTS (DRCOG)
WHEREAS, a Select Committee on Housing of the Denver Regional
Council of Governments (DRCOG) has proposed the formation of a Metro-
politan Housing District to assist local jurisdictions in delivering
housing to low and moderate income families in the region; and
WHEREAS, the summary report of the Select Committee has been
reviewed and discussed by the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge,
and
WHEREAS, concern has been expressed by members of the City
Council regarding the proposed Metropolitan Housing District with
respect to its possible duplication of effort and services with local
established Housing Authorities; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is also concerned about the estab-
lishment of another level of government and its possible conflict with
local control and decision-making, and questions the advisability of
the new Metropolitan approach which could result in additional costs
to the taxpayer.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Wheat Ridge that the proposal for the creation of a Metropolitan
Housing District is hereby opposed by the City of Wheat Ridge, and it
is recommended that DRCOG pursue the furtherance of goals and objectives
for low and moderate income housing in the region through other estab-
lished procedures and agencies.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to
send certified copies of this Resolution immediately to all members of
the Select Committee on Housing, to the Chairman, Denver Regional Council
of Governments, and to the Executive Director, Denver Regional Council
of Governments.
