INTRODUCED BY COUNCILt~N TURNER
RESOLUTION NO. 546
Series of 1977
TITLE: RESOLUTION PROTESTING THE FARE INCREASE PROPOSED BY THE
REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT TO BECOME EFFECTIVE
JANUARY 1, 1 9 78 .
WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) Board of Directors
has adopted a fare increase for patrons of the RTD transit system for trans-
portation services in the Denver Metro Area which is scheduled to become
effective January 1, 1978; and
WHEREAS, this increase will create an economic hardship on the working
population who depend upon RTD for transportation to and from work and who are
already adversely affected by the effects of inflation and rising cost of living;
and
WHEREAS, such increase will tend to further discourage patronage of
the bus system at a time when mass transit utilization should be encouraged
due to the problems of air pollution, traffic conflicts, and other environ-
mental factors;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Wheat Ridge that the City hereby files a formal protest and objection to the
fare increase for the reasons stated in this Resolution, and urges the
Board of Directors of RTD to reconsider its action and to seek other means
of meeting its increased costs without forcing patrons of the system to
absorb additional expense.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to
send certified copies of this Resolution to all members of the RTD Board
of Directors and to the Executive Director of RTD.
DONE AND RESOLVED by a vote of
of November, A. D. 1977.
