HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1982-0808 RESOLUTION NO. 808 Series of 1982 TITLE: REGARDING SCHEDULED CHANGES OF RTD BUS SERVICE WITHIN WHEAT RIDGE. WHEREAS, the Wheat Ridge City Council and the Mass Transit Committee of the City of Wheat Ridge has reviewed information describing changes in bus Route #44 which provides for a reduction in off-peak service from 30 minutes to 60 minutes; and WHEREAS, the Mass Transit Committee and City Council has a high degree of interest in providing bus service that responds to all citizens of the City; NOW, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the following position, described below in the form of more specific request and questions, be transmitted by the Mass Transit Committee to the Regional Transportation District and that the Mass Transit Committee negotiate satisfactory resolutions to the issue subject to approval of significant changes by this Council. The specific requests, questions, and observations describing the City's position are: 1. The City of Wheat Ridge expresses its appreciation to RTD for bus service in the past and supports RTD's effort in increasing ridership at times of budgetary constraints. 2. The City of Wheat Ridge believes all citizens should have access to bus service which is convenient and accessable throughout the entire day and not just only peak hours. Bus service should provide for easy transfers with short waiting period if bus ridership is to increase. 3. Increasing off-peak headway between Route #44 buses from 30 minutes to 60 minutes will result in poor service for those riders along West 44th Avenue and may result in a loss of bus riders. 4. While recognizing RTD's budgetary constraints and the need to reduce service along some routes, alternatives may be found which continue to provide adequate bus coverage along West 44th Avenue and which reduces RTD's costs. These alternatives may involve modification of Route #38 and Route #44 to serve West 44th Avenue. 5. RTD is therefore asked to delay any modifications of Route #44 until these alternatives are thoroughly considered and evaluated, and that the results of such a study be discussed with the Mass Transit Committee. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Wheat Ridge City Council on behalf of its citizens, asks that RTD work with the City in arriving at solutions for the above mentioned items in order to better meet the needs of the people who the RTD serves, and thereby encourage increased use of Mass Transit.
