Item 1. Meeting with Jeffers~n C~unty Public Library Trustees.
William Knott, Director ~f the Jefferson County Libr2r" i~trndUC8d
the JeffBrsnn County B~ard of Library Trustee members present.
He said there are fOLr ~r~a thEt are in need of Library improvements;
Nnrth i\rvada, Central Ulheat Ridrj8, Green f':ountain ...me !:olumbine or
South County. 0heat Ridge has the highest priority and is a tough
problem. There are four possibilities for central Wheat Ridge~ (1)
Building a new Branch, (2) Leasing space in the Times Square building,
(3) lease or buy the old Wheat Ridge Past Office building, (4) combine
with the schoal district to have a library on the campus site when
Wheat Ridge Junior High is renovated.
To get optimum service, 9000 square feet of building is necessary.
At this time thE Jefferson County Library does not own any land
in Ctiheat Ridge, hOltJ8ver, naturally a neld building is the mast
desired option. There is 10,000 square feet availabe in the Time
Square building, at a cost, far lease, of ~3.93 per square foot. They
are currently paying ~1.75 at present location. The old Past Office
building is available far sale or lease. The sale price i.s ~99,500
for 5775 square feet. Regarding parking and congestion it was
thought that, this wl1uld nl1t be a problem. There 8re plans for a
major recl1nstruction of Wheat Ridge Junior High School and it would
be possible to contract GJi th thE, 3[hl01 district to have a c'lmbined
school and public Library. This has been done successfully in the
Cn lumb ne 'lrr; '3.
The Library On rd requested City Cl1uncil to think about what Library
Services the;l ":JUlc like to have and bring recommendatirms back
to a meeting in 2 or 3 weeks.
Item 2. Request of Kipling 5000 Corporation fnr Rnad Imprnvements
and traffic signal installation at dcvell1per's expense on and adjacent
t~ the Devclnplilcnl: fJn Kipling St., neJrth ~f 1-70. The street is needed
to all~w the develJpment af the prfJperty. The developer is willing
to complete Independence north when okayed by Arvada. The developer
feels the Traffic Signal on Kipling is necessary and will not ~ake the
traffic flOl,! ~Jnrse. They are willing to put in 8 trip light Q_r
set light uS desired, and for four lanes. They will also put in
curb and gutter, if asked. The Traffic ~ignal will belong to the
City. Mr. Zwagerman is to coordinate the light with the State
HighlJJay 08partment and Idi th An'ads. Subject to be on r~arch 28 Agenda.
