TITLE:
A RESOLUTION ENDORSING COLORADO AND DENVER'S EFFORT TO
HOST THE 1998 WINTER OLYMPICS

WHEREAS, the Colorado General assembly by an overwhelming
99 to 1, passed a support resolution endorsing the
of the City of Denver in its bid for the 1998 Winter
Games; and
WHEREAS, this recognition as a winter sports center has
been recently reenforced by the following events: The 1988
United states Figure skating Championships in Denver, the
selection of the Vail-Beaver Creek areas as the site for the 1989
World Alpine Ski Championships, the selection of Denver's Winter
Park ski areas as the site for the 1990 World Disabled Ski
Championships, the selection of the Breckenridge ski areas as the
site for the 1990 Freestyle World Cup, the selection of Denver as
the site of the NCAA Final Four basketball championships in 1990,
the bid by the University of Denver to host the final Four hockey
championships in 1991 and the National Brotherhood of Skiers; and
WHEREAS, the Olympic Winter Games represent the pinnacle
of international winter sports competition; and
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge determines that hosting
the Winter Games is an excellent opportunity to promote Colorado
in both the national and international markets, and will benefit
the winter tourism industry and business and sports in general
across Colorado;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Wheat Ridge, endorses the efforts of the City of Denver
in its bid for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games.
