HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/23/1977 ~;rNUTES OF SPECIAL MEETHG OF THE CITY COUI'KIL June 23, 1977 The special meeting of the Wheat Ridqe City Council was called to order by Mayor Frank Stites at 7 20 a m at the Village Inn, 4700 Kipling Street, Wheat Ridge Colorado Councilmen present were ~1ary Jo Cavarra, Calvin Hulsey, Larry ~1erkl and Louise Turner Also present were City Administrator, John Jerman City Clerk, Carol Hampf, and Director of Community Development, Dennis Zwagernan 1-3 Slide Show and explanation of open office landscaping The slides were of similar application in other offices in the area and showed the flexibility of this type of furnishings Office space requirements are less with open office landscaping than with conventional furniture Mr Stinnet said that 62" screens a re more attract i ve than 80" If e 1 ectri ca 1 condu its and telephone wires are in columns from the ceiling, rather than floor plugs, more flexibility of location of furnishings is allowed, and is also less expensive Modular furnishings are estimated to cost $160,000 This type of furnishings would be more attractive in a new building would save move-in costs, we would be moving into a completed building, and current unused furnishings would be sold Discussion if there would be all new furnishings,or in open areas, or in private offices too Motion by Councilman Cavarra "I move that we authorize approval of the conce~of open office landscaping with electrical and telephone from the ceiling, and authorize staff to develop a bid for such furnishings, costs not to exceed $160,500" ~10tion was seconded by Councilman Turner and carried 4-0 Councilman Turner said that she approved of the concept, if usable existing furniture would be used Dee Burton said that in some areas, the best of the existing furniture would be used as feasible Mayor Stites iterated the decision that open areas would be coordinated and look at the administrative offices 4 Discuss and approve final plans and specifications Mr Stinnet presented a mockup of the front lobby area He said that at this time the lobby wall facing the main entrance was scheduled to be oak panelling (smooth, not v-groove) and that the only decoration that would not look good on it would be a mural Decision Councilman Cavarra, Hulsey, and Merkl, in favor, Councilman Turner against, the oak panelling, at this time If the decoration would not be suitable to a panelled wall, this decision could be changed at a later date The display case, if built, could be against the brick wall near the elevator Suggestion that the City Seal be on the wall going into the Court and Council Chambers Also that the names of former and present Mayors and Councilmen be on a Plaque on this wall Mayor Stites said that if the City Seal is included on the outside of the building, a smaller version would be nice on the wall mentioned above Re Insulated glass, vs bullet resistant, it was said that Chief Pinson in agreeable to insulated glass Councilman Turner requested that the cooling system be compatible with the possibility in the future of converting to solar Re the cooling tower, emergency generator and transformers scheduled to be near the South property line, but because of would be involved have been moved next to the building Mr that the noise would not be heard inside the building These had been "he noise that Stinnet said Mr Zwagerman said that there had been a change in the Police Department area re the reloading room Bullets will be purchased, not reloaded Mr Stinnet said that they are 5 days behind schedule, that they will need until Tuesday to finish the plans, and then Mr Zwagerman needs until Thursday to look at them June 23, 1977 2 - Councilman Turner requested that the brick pavers used inside the building, be blended with the outside paving for more pleasing appearance Mayor Stites said that he had a request from the Masonic Lodge to have a Cornerstone Ceremony, including a box for such mementos as desired Mayor Stites requested approval to sign off Cavarra, Hulsey, Merkl and Turner said yes Donaldson and Howard be checked with to get on the final plans Councilmen It was requested that Councilmen their opinions Mr Zwagerman said that re the voting light panel - it would be high on the left front wall (as you face the Council) to be visible to the audience and there would also be a panel on the Clerk's desk Mr Stinnet said that there are brochures showing styles of voting light panels Meeting adjourned - /' / ~ / /, .".
