RESOLUTION NO. 1295
SERIES OF 1992
TITLE:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE DESIGNATING THE
WHEAT RIDGE POST OFFICE BUILDING AS AN HISTORICALLY
SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURE.
WHEREAS, the Wheat Ridge Historical society has engaged in
considerable research and has determined that the Wheat Ridge Post
Office is, and is hereby declared to be, an historically
significant building;
WHEREAS, said Post Office building has been preserved and has
now been moved to a permanent location in the Wheat Ridge Historic
Park;
WHEREAS, the Post Office building, when completely restored,
will reflect typical rural Colorado post offices of the era of its
construction;
WHEREAS, the Wheat Ridge Post Office is the only such building
known to the Wheat Ridge Historical society to date to have been
specifically built for the purpose of a post office within all of
Jefferson County, and possibly in the State of Colorado;
WHEREAS, the building of the Wheat Ridge Post Office by Fred
Bunger formalized the name of Wheat Ridge, and to date the City of
Wheat Ridge remains the only city so named in the united States of
America;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city Council of the City
of Wheat Ridge that the City of Wheat Ridge declares the Wheat
Ridge Post Office to be a building of local historical significance
and a local historic structure.
