RESOLUTION NO 1464

TITLE A RESOLUTION REQUESTING CONTINUING FUNDING FOR THE
KIPLING VILLAGE SITE AND THE RESIDENTS WHO RESIDE AT THE
COMPLEX LOCATED ON THE RIDGE HOME SITE JUST NORTH OF RIDGE
ROAD WEST OF KIPLING ST IN THE CITY OF ARV ADA COUNTY OF
JEFFERSON
WHEREAS, The residents who reside at Kipling Village are developmentally disabled
with special problems which make it dlflicult for them to hve m neighborhood settings
and,
WHEREAS, Most of the residents resldmg in the village have been placed m
neighborhood settmgs and were unable to cope there and,
WHEREAS, The Kipling Village homes were designed and built espeCially for the
developmentally disabled and are sUited to clients' needs and,
WHEREAS, The residents receive mtensive therapy daily in a peaceful, quiet, family
setting and are thriving and,
WHEREAS, To displace and separate them by breakmg up their homes would be
devastatmg to their lives and could take years for some of them to recover from the
change and some might never recover and;
WHEREAS, These residents deserve a quality ofhfe so that they can function to the best
of their ability and,
WHEREAS, The State of Colorado has an obhgatlon to proVide a stable and appropriate
housmg for these unfornuate citizens and,
WHEREAS, The Ridge Home Site has been a part of the commumties of Wheat Ridge
and Arvada for many years and the residents are accepted as part of these commumtles
WIth no bias or diSCrIminatIOn and,
WHEREAS, The Citizens of Wheat Ridge realize their responsibility to the residents of
Kipling Village and,
WHEREAS, Red Rocks College IS planrung to move it's North campus to the Ridge
Home site, and the City of Wheat Ridge believes Kipling Village would be a compatible
and a compliment to the community college;
NOW, THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED by the CIty Council of the City of Wheat
Ridge that the Colorado State Legislature continue funding for the KIpling Village
complex for developmentally disabled cItIzens, of the State of Colorado for the next ten
years In order to provide a stable home for these citizens,
DONE AND RESOLVED thIs 27th
day of February, 1995.
