HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1997-1590 RESOLUTION NO. ~ Series of 1997 TITLE: A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A TEEN COMMITTEE FOR THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Wheat Ridge city Council to establish an area of City programs and/or service specifically to address the community's teenage population; and WHEREAS, it is further the intention of the Wheat Ridge City council to establish and operate a facility that would be used primarily by the community's teenage population; and WHEREAS, to further the goals and objectives of the Wheat Ridge city Council relative to the teenage population of the community, it is deemed desirable to form a special committee to focus upon teenage programs and issues; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Wheat Ridge city council that a Teen Committee is hereby established pursuant to the following conditions: SECTION 1. PURPOSE The Teen Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Wheat Ridge City Council, to the city Manager and staff, and to existing city boards and commissions on the operation of the City Teen Center, and issues, programs, and services related to the teenage population of the City of Wheat Ridge. SECTION 2. TEEN COMMITTEE COMPOSITION AND TERMS Initially, the Teen Committee shall be composed of the following membership: four students from Wheat Ridge High School; four students from Jefferson High School; two students from Everitt Middle School; two students from Wheat Ridge Middle School; one student each from Foothills Academy, Colorado Catholic Academy, and sts. Peter and Paul. In the event that other schools in the City of Wheat Ridge express an interest in participating in the Teen Committee, the Committee may at its own discretion, add said school representation in the same proportion to the existing Committee membership. Residency shall not be a requirement for members serving on the Teen Committee. The Teen Committee shall have the ability to add ex-officio members as they deem appropriate and necessary. SECTION 3. TEEN COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES The Teen Committee shall undertake the following responsibilities: Other activities or responsibilities may be undertaken by the Teen Committee if not inconsistent with the Charter or other City procedures, regulations, and operations. 1. Plan Teen Center events and coordinate with staff. 2. Keep Teen Center clean and in working order. 3. Discuss and plan additions to the Teen Center. 4. Provide input on budget matters as they relate to the Teen Center. 5. Represent the interests of the teenage population within the community. 6. Provide assistance and input with the grant writing associated with the Teen Center. 7. Contribute to the development of rules and regulations associated with the appropriate operation of the Teen Center. 8. Determine appropriate concessions to be offered at the Teen Center, and reinvest any profit in the operation of the Teen Center. SECTION 4. TEEN COMMITTEE OPERATION The Teen Committee shall elect from among its members, a Chairperson and such other officers as deemed necessary by the Committee. The Teen Committee shall be responsible to enact its own By-Laws establishing procedures and regulations deemed appropriate and consistent with the City Charter and provisions of the City Code. The city Manager shall designate a staff liaison to the Teen Committee for purposes of assisting with organization of the Committee meetings, and to serve any liaison and resource capacity for the City.
