TITLE:
RESOLUTION REQUESTING COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT FOR AN INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENT
PROJECT AT INTERSTATE 70 AND KIPLING STREET
WHEREAS, the interchange at Interstate 70 and Kipling
street, within the city of Wheat Ridge, is functionally deficient;
and
WHEREAS, the Interstate 70 and Kipling Street interchange
represents a significant safety hazard and has been the site of
numerous deaths and substantial traffic accidents due to the
geometry of the intersection and traffic speeds and volume at the
interchange; and
WHEREAS, the Interstate 70 and Kipling interchange in its
current deficient state creates significant traffic congestion,
thereby contributing to poor air quality in the immediate area; and
WHEREAS, the Interstate 70 and Kipling Street interchange
is a project which has regional significance, and has been
prioritized in the Jefferson County County-wide Transportation Plan
as a priority project; and
WHEREAS, the Wheat Ridge city Council has budgeted
$500,000 in matching funds in the City's capital Improvement budget
in support of the Interstate 70 and Kipling Street interchange
improvement project; and
WHEREAS, Colorado Department of Transportation support
and matching funding is necessary in order to have the proj ect
officially listed on the State Transportation Improvement Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Wheat Ridge City
council that improvements to the Interstate 70 and Kipling Street
interchange represent a high priority project for the community and
the region; and that the Colorado Department of Transportation is
respectfully requested to include the Interstate 70 and Kipling
Street interchange improvement proj ect as a State supported proj ect
for inclusion on the State Transportation Improvement Program list;
and further, that the State provide the necessary 15% matching
funds for the improvement project.
