TITLE A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE GREAT OUTDOOR COLORADO GRANT
APPLIC A TION FOR FUNDS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF PHASE 2 OF THE KIRT
MANWARING ATHLETIC FIELD COMPLEX
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat RIdge purchased the real property located at 4900 Marshall in
Wheat Ridge, Colorado, through the use of It'S attributable share of Jefferson County Open Space Funds;
and
WHEREAS, Wheat RIdge City Park Master Plan Goals state
"The City of Wheat Ridge will proVide a balanced and equitable park and recreatIOn
system which IS responsive to all age groups and user groups, and will also meet the needs
of special user groups;" and
WHEREAS, there IS unmet demand for additIOnal baseball/softball fields and soccer/football fields
With m the Wheat RIdge area, and
WHEREAS, Phase I was the constructIOn of the KIrt Manwanng "Little League" Baseball field
which IS being constructed m 1998 through m-kmd donatIOns and cash contributIOn by the McCormick
FoundatIOn, a Colorado Rockies chanty; and
WHEREAS, Phase 2 of the constructIOn of the Klrt Manwaring AthletiC Field would be the
constructIOn of an additional basebalUsoftball field and a soccer/football field; and
WHEREAS, Phase 2 deSign and constructIOn is estimated to cost $390,000, which mcludes the
constructIOn of the parkmg lot, gradmg and migatlOn, turf or seed costs, demohtlOn of the buildings and
constructIOn of a cover for the dramage ditch, and
WHEREAS, Amendment 8 was passed by the Colorado Voters m November, 1993, estabhshmg
Great Outdoors Colorado and deSignating lottery proceeds as a fundmg mechanIsm for parks and recreatIon
projects. Therefore, Great Outdoors Colorado estabhshed a grant program for local governments to meet
the parks and recreatIOnal needs of commumtles
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Wheat Ridge City Council supports the grant
applicatIOn to Great Outdoors Colorado for the Wheat Ridge Kirt Manwanng Athletic Field Complex m
the amount of$75,000
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Wheat Ridge City Council encourages the Board of Great
Outdoors Colorado to fund thiS proJect.
