TITLE. A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF COLORADO STATE HISTORICAL FUND GRANT
APPLICATION FOR FUNDS FOR THE STABILIZATION AND RESTORATION OF
THE BAUGH HOUSE
WHEREAS, the Baugh House is located at 11361 West 44th Avenue in the City of Wheat
Ridge, and
WHEREAS, the House, named for its original ownerlbuilder is a late Victorian clapboard
farm house which consists of a 1-112 story hand hewn, v-notched log cabin with an attached stone
aggregate cold storage room, and
WHEREAS, the log cabin portion of the house apparently dates from 1859 and the clapboard
house apparently dates from about 1890; and
WHEREAS, the log cabin may be the oldest log cabin currently in existence in the City of
Wheat Ridge and the State of Colorado; and
WHEREAS, the real property has been undisturbed, except for agricultural purposes, and
WHEREAS, in May, 1994, a fire occurred at the Baugh House resulting in damage to the
building; and
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge acquired the Baugh House on July 21, 1997 for the
purpose of the preservation of the historic structure, and
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge designated the Baugh House a locally designated
landmark III September, 1997, and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Historical Society has provided financial support in the nature of
grants for the purposes of preparing a State Historical Nomination, preparing a Needs Assessment
Report, performing a preliminary archeological study and preparing construction drawings; and
WHEREAS, the construction drawings should be completed prior to the time of award of the
April 1, 1999 grant
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT
The City of Wheat Ridge requests the Colorado Historical Society fund its grant application
for the Baugh House for the following purposes.
A. Stabilization efforts to the fire damaged house, and
B Restoration efforts of the structure and real property
DONE AND RESOLVED THIS 22ndday of March, 1999
