TITLE. A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE RECREATIONAL TRAILS GRANT
APPLICATION FOR THE PROSPECT PARK BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat RIdge is commItted to the Wheat RIdge Greenbelt, whIch IS a
State DesIgnated Trail, and
WHEREAS, Prospect Park is one of Ihe major access powts to the Wheat Ridge ConservatIOn
Area, and
WHEREAS, Prospect Lake and Clear Creek function as wildlife habItat, and
WHEREAS, the existing Prospect Park Bridge across Clear Creek is a 75 foot center pier bridge
which should be replaced with a clear span bridge for flood control and to reduce the impact on the
Clear Creek channe and
WHEREAS, Wheat Ridge City Park Master Plan Recommendations state
"The Wheat Ridge Clear Creek Greenbelt is the most significant open space resource,
paSSIve recreation opportunity and natural area in the City It is of Immeasurable
community and regional value Working WIth State and local groups, it is also
recommended Ihat an on-going mechanism be created 10 specifically address Ihe quality
and enhancement of Ihe Greenbelt and to make recommendatIOns for iIS improvement.."
WHEREAS, the Wheat RIdge City Park Master Plan RecommendatIOns state
"Clear Creek is the spine of the Wheat Ridge Greenbelt and the most significant natural
amenity within the City Wheat Ridge should make every effort to proIect this
valuable resource and encourage its maintenance and enhancement as a recreational and
naIural amenity," and
WHEREAS, Amendment 8 was passed by the Colorado Voters in November, 1993, establIshmg
Great Outdoors Colorado and designatmg lottery proceeds as a funding mechanism for parks and
recreation projects. Therefore, GOCO provides funding for the State Trails Grant program
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Wheat Ridge City Council supports the grant
applIcation for the Prospect Park Bridge in the amount of $33,000
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Wheat Ridge City Council requests funding for thIS
project.

"I move to approve Itcm 9 C (Resolution 67. 1999) I further move that the issue of
deSIgn of the bndge be referred to the CIty A1Iairs Committee before any deSIgn work takes
place.
