RESOLUTION NO. 28 -2002

TITLE:
A RESOLUTION TO ENDORSE THE FINDINGS OF THE 1-
70 DENVER TO GOLDEN ("GOLD LINE") MAJOR
INVESTMENT STUDIES
WHEREAS, traffic congestion in the Denver metropolitan area is increaSIng,
particularly along the I-70 corridor, and accommodations for alternate modes are
necessary to relieve congestion and minimize pollution; and
WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation District has completed Major
Investment Studies (MIS) for all the major transit corridors, including the 1-70 Denver to
Golden corridor commonly referred to as the "Gold Line;" and
WHEREAS, each MIS has analyzed many alternatives to Implement transit along
the respective corridor to find a locally preferred alternative that addresses the needs of
each community and is compatible with safe, efficient, and economical operations withm
that corridor; and
WHEREAS, after careful analysis the 1-70 Denver to Golden MIS Locally
Preferred Alternative (LP A) was identified as light rail transit from the Denver Union
Terminal to the Ward Road Park-n-Ride (Phase I).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE WHEAT RIDGE CITY
COUNCIL as follows:
Section 1. The City Council fully supports the findings of the 1-70 Denver to
Golden Major Investment Studies (MIS) including the LPA and urges the implementation
of this alternative to enhance regIOnal travel and transit compatibility.
Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized to forward a copy ofthis
resolution to the RTD Board, the City and County of Denver, the Adams County
Commissioners, and the Jefferson County Commissioners urging each entity to officially
support the Gold LIne LP A.
Section 3.
Council.
This resolution shall be effective upon its approval by the City
