ORDINANCE NO. 230
SERIES OF 1977
TITLE: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 18-8 AND SECTION 18-11
OF THE CODE OF LAWS OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, 1976
EDITION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WHEAT
RIDGE, COLORADO, THAT:
Section 1. Section 18-8 of the Code of Laws of the City
of Wheat Ridge, 1976 Edition, is amended to read:
Uniforms. Every police officer, including reserve
police, shall wear at all times while on duty, a uniform
of the type and quality prescribed and furnished by the
City Council.
Section 2. Section 18-11 of the Code of Laws of the City
of Wheat Ridge, 1976 Edition, is amended to read:
Special Police; Reserve Police; Appointment; Powers.
The Mayor upon any emergency, riot, pestilence, invasion,
or at any time he shall deem it necessary for the peace,
good order or health of the City, order the Chief of Police
to appoint Special Policemen for a specified time, not
exceeding two (2) days, without the approval of the City
Council. He may also, with the approval of a majority of
the City Council, order the Chief of Police to appoint
such number of Special Policemen as may be agreed upon by
City Council, to serve upon days of election, public
celebration and holidays, and said Special Policemen shall
have and possess all arrest powers of regular policemen
during the time for which he is serving under appointment
to active duty. The Mayor may order the Chief of Police
to appoint such number of Reserve Policemen as may be
authorized by the City Council, and said Reserve Policemen
shall have and possess all arrest powers of regular
policemen. However, reserve policemen shall not have

any pay, retirement, fringe benefits or privileges
conferred on behalf of regular police personnel of the
City of Wheat Ridge.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall take
effect and be in force thirty (30) days after publication
following final passage.
