RESOLUTION NO. ~
Series of 1970
WH~RlAS, the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, was in-
corporated as of August 20, A. D. 1969; and said City has no
official, o~namental, identifying seal;
AND WH~REAS, the City Council agrees that an official,
ornamental, identifying seal is a necesaary emblem to enhance
the image and dignity of the municipal entity of said City;
AND WHEREAS, the City Council agrees that the design
for said official, ornamental, identifying seal should be created
by the school children of the City of Wheat Ridge in order to
develope their awareness of the municipal entity and because as
future citi~ens of said City, said children should be permitted
to particiFl'ate to the extent that they are able in municipal affairs;
AND WHEREAS, the City Council agrees that interest in
the creation at:' an official, ornamental, identifyini:" seal can
b1'l>-st be engendered among the school children of said city through

AND WHEREAS, Anthony V. Zarlengo, Mund::iIlflpal Judge, has
promulgated rules and a form of official entry blana for said
contest and has expressed his interest in cooperation with the
City Council, civic groups, business firms and/or private citizens
in the execution of said contest; said official ru~hxes being annexed
hereto and Hleatified as Exhibit "A", said propos~ entry blank
being annexed hereto and identified as Exhibit "Bll.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of,

and in behalf of the City of Wheat Ridge, Comorado, doth hereby
approve and adopt the proposal of an official contest fDr the
creation of an official, ornamental, identifying seal for the City
of Wheat Ridge; said contest to be known as "The City of Wheat Ridge
Seal Contest;"
AND IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the rules for said contest
as proposed and the entry blank for said contest as proposed be,
and are hereby adopted.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this lOth day of March, A. D. 1970.

CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE SEAL CONTEST

RULfE...:..
1. This contest is open to every child who resides within
The City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, who is enrolled
in any school and who is in any grade from Kindergarten
through the 12th Grade.
2. There is no entry fee.
3. Each child must make his own design for an Official Ornamental
Seal for The City of Wheat Ridge without assistance by
his or her parent, guardian, members of his family,
friends or teachers. The design submitted by each child
must be his or her own original idea.
4. The design submitted may be in black and white or in color, and
pencil, pen crayola or other medium which the child chooses
may be used.

5. The design submitted must be contained within the inner circle

on the Official Entry Blank. The outer circle should con-
tain the words, "CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE", "COLORADO".
6. Entries will be placed into the following categories:
FIRST DIVISION:
Kindergarten through 1st Grade.
SECOND DIVISION:
2nd, 3rd and 4th Grades.
THIRD DIVISION:
5th and 6th Grades.
FIFTH DIVISION:
7th, 8th and 9th Grades.
10th, 11th and 12th Grades.
FOURTH DIVISION:
7. There will be a FIRST, SECOND and THIRD Place Winner in each
Division. Others will receive a certificate acknowledging
their participation.

8. The child submitting the actual design chosen by the Judges
to be the Official Ornamental Identifying Seal for The
City of Wheat Ridge, will be designated as THE GRAND
WINNER, and will receive a seperate prize.
9. The design submitted by THE GRAND WINNER will be referred to
a commercial artist for refinement, if necessary, before
said design is adopted by The City of Wheat Ridge.
10. The judging body will be announced in the local newspapers
at a later date.
11. The de~isions of the judges will be final.
12. The closing date of the contest and other rules, if formulated,
will be announced in the local newspapers at a later date.
