HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1975-0418 INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN Merkl RESOLUTION NO. 418 Series of 1975 TITLE: A RESOLUTION STATING OBJECTIONS TO THE PROPOSED INCREASE IN THE JEFFERSON COUNTY R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET FOR 1975 AND OBJECTING TO THE PROPOSED INCREASE IN MILL LEVY FOR THIS PURPOSE WHEREAS, the Jefferson County R-1 School District Board has approved a 135.6 million dollar total budget for 1976 w~ich represents a twenty-three percent (23%) general fund increase over the 1375 budget; and WHEREAS, the percentage of budget increase is far greater than the 1.1% increase in school enrollment; and WHEREAS, the proposed 1976 budget will require a 9.35 mill levy increase which will place a heavy burden on property owners in Wheat Ridge; and WHEREAS, the proposed increase in the school mill levy will have an adverse affect on the ability of the City of Wheat Ridge to finance needed municipal services due to the impact on local property owners; and WHEREAS, the proposed budget has been forwarded to the Colorado State Budget Review Board for its review and approval pursuant to State law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge that the proposed 1976 school budget is excessive and if adopted will cause hardship on many residents and property owners residing in Wheat Ridge, and, therefore, should be reduced drastically to avoid any increase in the mill levy. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State Budget Review Board be urged to cause such budget to be reduced within existing mill levies in effect for 1976 in accordance with its statutory authority.
