A RESOLUTION URGING THE COLORADO STATE LEGISLATURE TO REAPPORTION THE
DISTRIBUTION OF THE HIGHWAY USERS TAX FUND TO PROVIDE MUNICIPALITIES
A LARGER PORTION THEREOF
W1EREAS, The City of Wheat Ridge receives revenue from the
State Highway Users Tax Fund; and
WHEREAS, The City of Wheat Ridge has utilized these funds for
upgrading the quality of the City's streets; and
WHEREAS, The City of Wheat Ridge every year allocates a sub-
stantial portion of its Budget for the maintenance of City streets and
finds that its financial resources have been insufficient to meet the
needs of the City for proper street and road construction and mainte-
nance; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the State Highway Users Tax Fund is
to provide for the maintenance of State highways, County roads, and
City streets; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Colorado has not
been allocating a sufficient proportion of the State Highway Users Tax
Fund for the benefit of municipalities in the State of Colorado, includ-
ing the City of Wheat Ridge;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Wheat Ridge:
1. That the Colorado State Legislature is hereby urged to
reapportion the distribution of the State Highways Users Tax Fund in
order to provide municipalities with a greater and more equitable portion
of said Fund for the construction and maintenance of City streets and
roadways.
2. That the City of Wheat Ridge actively join with other
municipalities in any appropriate manner to seek the immediate passage
of appropriate legislation to carry out the intent of this Resolution.
3. That the City Clerk forward copies of this Resolution to
the City's Representatives and Senators in the Colorado General Assembly
to urge them to act speedily and favorably on legislation to increase
the allocation of these funds to municipalities in Colorado.
