RESOLUTION NO. 560
Series of 1978
TITLE: RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE TO THE
CLOSING OF FRUITDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN WHEAT RIDGE.
WHEREAS, Jefferson County R-1 District Board of Education is considering
the closing of Fruitdale Elementary School in Wheat Ridge; and
WHEREAS, Fruitdale Elementary School is needed and desired by the resi-
dents of this area of Wheat Ridge and is a vital asset to the neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, this school has played an important role in the history of
Wheat Ridge and is needed to preserve student stability and identity with the
neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, population projections for the Fruitdale portion of Wheat Ridge
indicate the continued and future need for an elementary school at this location;
and
WHEREAS. the City strongly supports its continuation for the betterment
of the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of ~Jheat
Pidge that the Jefferson County R-1 Board of Education be hereby urged to exam-
ine all possible economic alternatives before any final decision is made to
close the school;
AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Fruitdale Elementary School be retained
in consideration of the importance of this school to the neighborhood and to
the City of Wheat Ridge.
