HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1979-0626 INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER DONALDSON/PEPE RESOLUTION NO. 626 Series of 1979 TITLE: RESOLUTION URGING THE JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO ESTABLISH A JEFFERSON COUNTY BRANCH LIBRARY AND RELATED PUBLIC USES IN THE FORMER COLUMBIA HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO. WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners on behalf of Jefferson County, Colorado, a body politic, has entered into a lease agree- ment with the Jefferson County R-1 School District, dated September 14, 1978 with option to purchase certain real property commonly known as Columbia Heights Elementary School, at 3227 Chase Street, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado; and WHEREAS, the Board has previously stated its intention and desire to remodel portions of this property to convert it for use as a County branch library for the City of Wheat Ridge; and WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Library Board has approved and en- dorsed this plan; and WHEREAS, a new branch library at this location is endorsed by citi- zens of the City of Wheat Ridge and would be an asset to the entire commun- ity of Wheat Ridge. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge strongly urges the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners to acquire and improve the former Columbia Heights Elementary School buildings for the purpose of establishing and maintaining a branch library for the City of Wheat Ridge and related activities of the Library Board, and to renovate those portions of the complex to be available for full public use. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby states its will- ingness and intention to appropriate City funds in an amount not to exceed Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000) as the City's contribution toward the remodeling costs of the library section of the building, provided that the Board of County Commissioners authorizes County funds in an amount equal to the City's contribution or more. This appropriation is contingent upon a later agreement related to the disposition of these funds in the event that the reversionary clause is invoked. The City will encourage volunteer and service group assistance for remodeling projects. In addition, the City staff will provide some in-kind improvement services to be later determined through joint discussions between City staff and Council Members and repre- sentatives of the County Commissioners and/or Library Board. Resolution No. 626 Introduced by Councilmember Page -2- Donaldson/Pepe BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City's financial contribution be and hereby is contingent on the County's adherence to the terms and condi- tions of the lease agreement with option to purchase, dated September 14, 1978, as originally written, resulting in the fee title ownership by the County of Jefferson, as referred to in the first paragraph of this Resolu- tion. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board be urged to proceed with this project as expeditiously as possible, and that a copy of this Reso- lution be sent to all members of the Jefferson County Library Board requesting that the Library Board cooperate fully with the County Commis- sioners in accomplishing this project pursuant to this Resolution.
