HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1984-0879 RESOLUTION NO. 879 Series of 1984 TITLE: A RESOLUTION URGING THE COLORADO ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS TO OPPOSE LEGISLATION INTRODUCED CONCERNING SALES TAX SIMPLIFICATION. WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge, a home-rule city, is adamantly opposed to any efforts interfering with municipal powers in establishing sales and use tax base and rate; WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge opposes efforts to MANDATE state collection of municipal taxes; WHEREAS, the City believes that legislation has been prematurely introduced without careful consideration of all aspects of such a complex and controversial issue; WHEREAS, there has been coordinated voluntary efforts through the Colorado Association of Municipal Tax Auditors and the Colorado Municipal League to streamline the present sales tax system; WHEREAS, major Colorado cities have standardized reporting forms, due dates and have made efforts at standardizing bases among the cities; WHEREAS, voluntary efforts to provide reciprocal or cooperative auditing between state and city have been made which has decreased the amount of duplicate audits and government involvement; WHEREAS, the City would be in danger of losing local autonomy and an enormous loss of revenue possibly resulting in an increase in sales taxes; WHEREAS, the City is concerned with possible future legislation which would standardize base and rate. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO, that it urges the State Legislators to act as quickly as possible to oppose legislation proposed concerning sales tax simplification.
