HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1984-0888 RESOLUTION NO. 888 Series of 1984 TITLE: RESOLUTION TO APPROVE A NEW SPENDING LIMIT FOR THE WADSWORTH TOWN CENTER PARK PROJECT AT THE LEVEL OF $300,000 FOR DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION AND AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT TO DO DEMOLITION WORK h~D THE PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT 'DO DO THE PLANTING OF THE TREES. WHEREAS, the City Council in the spring of 1978 authorized the Community Development Department to hire an Architect/Urban Design Consultant to do a Master Plan for the total Wadsworth Activity Center. Upon receiving that report the same City Council directed the consultant to do a detailed study of the "hub area" so that action plans would focus on the commercial area east of Wadsworth between 38th am 44th, which more recently has been called the wadsworth Town Center; and WHEREAS, in April of 1981, the City Council instructed staff to prepare an urban Renewal Plan for the Wadswoth Town Center and to purchase the easement for the Connector Drive; and WHEREAS, in December of 1981, the City Council approved the Limited Wadsworth Town Center Urban Renewal plan and also approved the use of Open Space funds for appraisal and purchase of the Town Center Park; and ~MEREAS, in January of 1982, the City Council approved the Wadsworth Town Center Plan Master Plan Amendment to the Comprehensive Development Plan of the City of Wheat Ridge; and WHEREAS, in August of 1982, the Town Center Park was purchased by the City Council; and WHEREAS, in September of 1982, the City Council approved Project Approval No. 2 for the Wadsworth Town Center which authorized the construction of the Connector Drive; and WHEREAS, in September of 1983, the City Council approved Project Element Approval No.3 which authorized the Urban Renewal Authority to design and construct the Wheat Ridge Town Center Park at a total cost of development between $100,000 and $200,000. It also authorized the Authority to work with the property owners to construct a joint project to improve the internal circulation of the center and improve the linkage with the existing Connector Drive, which has been constructed by the City; and Resolution No. 8RR Page 2 WHEREAS, the Urban Renewal Authority has contracted with Winston Associates, a landscape architectural firm, to do a Master Plan for the Wheat Ridge Town Center Park. This Master Plan has been completed through a design workshop process with the citizens of Wheat Ridge. The cost of the Park, Plaza and Fountain comes to a total design and construction cost of $300,000, which falls within the original range requested by the Urban Renewal Authority of $200,000 to $400,000. NOW, THEREFORE, the city Council approves a new spending limit for the Wadsworth Town Center Park Project at the level of $300,000 for design and construction and that the public Works Department be authorized to do the demolition work on the project and the Parks & Recreation Department be authorized to do the planting of the trees.
