HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1984-0925 RESOLUTION NO. 925 Series of 1984 TITLE: RESOLUTION TO FORMALLY RECOMMEND TO THE DEPARTMENT OF CORREC- TIONS, THE GOVERNOR AND LEGISLATURE OF COLORADO TO APPROVE AND SITE A NEW CORRECTIONAL FACILITY ON STATE LAND LOCATED AT THE LOWRY BOMBING RANGE WHEREAS, the final summary report of the DRCOG Jail Needs Task Force work in 1983 identified housing costs for state prisoners in county jails to be approximately $l.6 million per year. The task force report also indicated five of the six metro area counties are currently transporting approximately 6,000 state prisoners a year to and from facilities at Canon City and Buena Vista; and WHEREAS, the Denver Regional Council of Governments created a Corrections Facility Siting Task Force in August 1984 to locate a site in the metropolitan area for formal recommendation by DRCOG; and WHEREAS, the Task Force as a result of work in developing a correctional facility site proposal, recommends DRCOG's formal approval and support for the correctional facility site proposal for land in the Lowry Bombing Range; and WHEREAS, Arapahoe County and Arapahoe County Sheriff formally support this proposal; and WHEREAS, the State Board of Land Commissioners has assisted In identifying this state land; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, recommend that the Department of Corrections, the Governor and Legislature of the State of Colorado approve and site the new correctional facility on Sections 3, 33 and 34, Range 6SW, Township 5 South, Arapahoe County, State of Colorado, on state land in the Lowry Bombing Range; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that such a new corrections facility at the Lowry site contain a diagnostic unit so as to maximize benefits to the public and the facility itself.
