HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1990-1191 RESOLUTION NO. 1191 TITLE: A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PLANTING OF TREES IN THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE AND THE OBSERVANCE OF ARBOR DAY/EARTH DAY 1990 WHEREAS, the planting of trees can reduce the erosion of topsoil by wind and water, reduce heating and cooling costs, and moderate the temperature; and WHEREAS, trees clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; and WHEREAS, trees can increase property values, and the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our city; and WHEREAS, maintained trees improve the quality of our lives; and WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed a special day for tree planting; and WHEREAS, 1990 commemorates the twentieth anniversary of protecting our environment; and WHEREAS, The City of Wheat Ridge continues to budget funds for the care, preservation and planting of trees; and WHEREAS, the schools, businesses, civic groups, clubs and individual citizens have made tree planting a community celebration; and WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge has qualified for Tree City U.S.A. for eleven years; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Wheat Ridge recognizes the benefits of local tree planting efforts throughout the region and encourages all local residents to support the planting of trees. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Wheat Ridge supports the observance of Arbor Dayan April 20, 1990 and Earth Dayan April 22, 1990.
