HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1990-1197 RESOLUTION NO. 1197 SERIES OF 1990 TITLE: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE SETTING FORTH THE CITY COUNCIL'S INTENTION TO DIRECT CITY PERSONNEL TO PURCHASE WHENEVER POSSIBLE RECYCLABLE AND RECYCLED PRODUCTS. WHEREAS, to provide guidance to city administrators, department heads and the Purchasing Division for the purchase of recyclable and recycled office and work related products. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge as follows: It shall be the policy of the City of Wheat Ridge that consideration to the purchase of products for use within the City shall first be given to recyclable and recycled products where those products are of comparable quality, product life and price when compared to products produced with virgin materials. A cost preference for recycled products shall be set at 15%, to be reviewed from time to time, shall be allowed for the purchase of recyclable and recycled products over the cost of virgin products. Consideration shall also be given to the purchase of nondisposable products which have a longer life than disposable products. The Purchasing Division shall give bid preference for the purchase of recyclable and recycled products for general city department requests. The purchase of recyclable and recycled products will be made where those products do not exceed the above stated cost preference and where those products are of comparable quality and life expectancy to products made of virgin materials. The requisitioner shall prepare specifications for recycled products similar to that for virgin product purchases. Products to be purchased under these guidelines include: I. Office Paper Products a. Computer paper b. Writing paper c. Copier paper d. Stationery e. Envelopes f. Business forms * The Purchasing Division shall procure only white office paper, tablets, note pads etc. * All city letter head paper, shall be printed on recycled paper and shall contain a tag line indicating that it is recycled paper. .M~-: - * All memos, brochures, manuals, etc., for public distribution, which are copied at a print shop must have a statement printed on the document identifying that it has been printed on recycled paper. * All Departments shall be required to use only white office paper for memos, newsletters, bulletins, forms (excluding two or three part forms), etc. 2. Janitorial and Maintenance Supplies a. Paper towels b. Tissues c. Toilet Paper ; 3. Computer and Toner Cartridges 4. All xerographic copies and printing shall be done two-sided, whenever possible. 5.
