HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1992-1305 RESOLUTION No. ~ Series of 1992 TITLE: A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A POSSIBLE BALLOT QUESTION CHANGING THE NUMBER OF JEFFERSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, is located within the confines of Jefferson County; and WHEREAS, residents of Wheat Ridge pay real estate and other taxes to Jefferson County, which are allocated in the county budget; and WHEREAS, the present board of County Commissioners consists of three representatives, elected at large; and made by majority WHEREAS, significant decisions, as few as two of the three of the board; and pOlicies and commissioners, budgets may be representing a WHEREAS, the population of Jefferson County is approximately 438,000 (1990 Census); and WHEREAS, the land area of Jefferson County is approximately 780 square miles; and WHEREAS, the county budget is approximately $211 million, including an open space budget of $37 million; and WHEREAS, Jefferson County responsibility is Commissioners; and in light of the size, government, that an found to exist for complexity and unreasonable the present diversity of burden and three County WHEREAS, PRO-5 has initiated and is carrying on a petition drive to put the following question to the voters of Jefferson County: "Shall the membership of the Board of County Commissioners of Jefferson County, Colorado, be increased from three (3) to five (5) members, each of whom shall be required to be a resident of the district from which that member runs for election and each of whom shall be elected only by the voters residing in that district?" NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, in pursuance of and in support of the PRO-5 petition drive, the City Council of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, endorses said proposal as a positive improvement in Jefferson County Government, and encourages the Board of Commissioners of Jefferson County to submit the referendum question to the voters of Jefferson County. ,~ l Ray k
