HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1994-1402 RESOLUTION NO. 1402 Series of 1994 TITLE: RESOLUTION STATING OFFICIAL POSITION OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE PERTAINING TO REPLACEMENT OF CURB RAMPS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act regulations state that all curb ramps shall be replaced to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act standards by January 26, 1995; and WHEREAS, the City approximately 1,640 curb ramps Disabilities Act standards; and of Wheat Ridge presently has that do not meet Americans with WHEREAS, the construction of approximately 1,640 curb ramps alone will cost approximately 2.5 million dollars, and WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge city Council believes that meeting this deadline will have a major impact on the capital Improvement Fund budget. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, as follows: 1. Wheat Ridge City Council supports the Americans with Disabilities Act requirement to replace curb ramps for better access for the disabled. 2. Wheat Ridge city Council believes, however, that the deadline applies excessive financial hardship on municipal, county, and state governments. 3. Wheat Ridge Congress to extend the Disabili ties Act to governmental agencies.
