TITLE A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE GREAT OUTDOOR COLORADO GRANT
APPLICATION FOR DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL KIOSKS ALONG THE
WHEAT RIDGE GREENBELT
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge owns or controls 250 acres of undeveloped real
property located adjacent to Clear Creek III Wheat Ridge, commonly referred to as the Wheat
Ridge Greenbelt; and
WHEREAS, Wheat Ridge City Park Master Plan Goals state.
"As an element ofsigmficant natural resource and recreational value to the commumty,
the City will do everything within Its ability to secure and maintain the long-term
management of the Wheat Ridge Clear Creek Greenbelt ," and
WHEREAS, dunng the 1997 Budget process the Wheat RIdge City Council approved the
constructIOn of 11 Informational kiosks along the Clear Creek Greenbelt at a cost of $ 11,000; and
WHEREAS, there are locations along the Greenbelt for 22 informatIOnal kiosks, so
funding for an additIOnal 11 IS needed, and
WHEREAS, budget estimates for the additIOnal 11 IS $1\ ,000; and
WHEREAS, Amendment 8 was passed by the Colorado Voters in November, 1992,
establishing Great Outdoors Colorado and deSignating lottery proceeds as a funding mechanism
for parks and recreation projects Therefore, Great Outdoors Colorado established a matching
grant program for local governments to meet the parks and recreatIOnal needs of cOffimumtles;
and
WHEREAS, Wheat Ridge IS applYing for a grant m the amount of$11,000 for the Wheat
RIdge Clear Creek Greenbelt informatIOnal kiosks;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Wheat RIdge City Council supports
the grant application to Great Outdoors Colorado for the Wheat RIdge Clear Creek Greenbelt
informational kiosks III the amount of$II,OOO
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Wheat RIdge City Council encourages the Board
of Great Outdoors Colorado to fund thiS project.
