RESOLUTION NO. 1670
SERIES OF 1998
TITLE:
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF A BALLOT QUESTION
PERMITTING ACCELERATED ACQUISITION OF OPEN SPACE
WHEREAS, the cltJzen group, Save Open Space (SOS), petitIOned the Jefferson
County CommissIOners to place a questIon before the voters of Jefferson County In November
regarding the accelerated acqUisitIOn of open space Within the County; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Commissioners have agreed to place a ballot
questIOn before the voters to allow the issuance of bonds to accelerate the purchase of open
space Within Jefferson County With Said bond principal and Interest payments to be made from
eXisting open space program revenues, and
WHEREAS, the open space ballot questIon Will proVide for a more accelerated
and expanded acqUisition of open space throughout Jefferson County resulting In greater
quantItJes of open space being purchased at a lesser gross cost than If the open space were
purchased on an annual baSIS solely With available annual open space program revenues, and
WHEREAS, the ballot questJon speCIfically proVides that funds generated as a
result of voter approval of the measure would only be used for acqUisItIon of open space; and
WHEREAS, the open space ballot questIOn will have no adverse Impact on the
City of Wheat Ridge's attributable share of open space funds and should prOVide a benefit to the
Citizens of Wheat Ridge through added acquIsitIOn of open space currently beyond the ability of
the City to purchase from ItS available revenue sources,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Wheat Ridge City Council
expresses ItS support for the open space acquIsitIOn ballot question on the November ballot as
proposed by the Citizen group Save Open Space, and encourages Wheat Ridge voters to support
thiS effort as benefiCial to the City of Wheat RIdge and to the overall open space program m
Jefferson County
