TITLE. A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE GREAT OUTDOOR COLORADO GRANT
APPLlC ATION FOR FUNDS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE WHEAT RIDGE
RECREATION CENTER SOCCER FIELD
WHEREAS, the CIty of Wheat Ridge purchased the real property located at 4100 Klphng in
Wheat Ridge, Colorado, through the use of It'S attributable share of Jefferson County Open Space
Funds; and
WHEREAS, Wheat Ridge City Park Master Plan Goals state.
"The CIty of Wheat Ridge will prOVIde a balanced and equitable park and recreation
system wluch is responsIve to all age groups and user groups, and will also meet the
needs of speCial user groups;" and
WHEREAS, there IS unmet demand for addI\lonal baseball/softball fields and soccer/football
fields WIth 111 the Wheat Ridge area, and
WHEREAS, a soccer/football field would be a benefiCial ameruty to the Recreation Center;
and
WHEREAS, the real property purchased will support the RecreatIOn Center and a soccer field,
and
WHEREAS, deSign and constructIOn IS estimated to cost $162,000, which 1I1cludes deSign,
b'Tadmg and Irngatlon, turf costs and trees; and
WHEREAS, Amendment 8 was passed by the Colorado Voters 111 November, 1993,
estabhshmg Great Outdoors Colorado and designatmg lottery proceeds as a fundmg mechanIsm for
parks and recreatlon proJects. Therefore, GOCO established a grant program for local governments to
meet the parks and recreational needs of cornmurutles,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Wheat Ridge CIty Council supports the grant
apphcatlon to Great Outdoors Colorado for the Wheat Ridge Recreatlon Center Soccer Field 111 the
amount of $50,000
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Wheat Ridge City Council encourages the Board of
Great Outdoors Colorado to fund thIS project
