TITLE:
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE USE OF
FACILITATION AND MEDIATION SERVICES
WHEREAS, facilitation is a collaborative process used to help a group of
mdividuals with divergent views reach a goal to the mutual satisfaction of the
participants; and
WHEREAS, medIatIOn is an mformal, voluntary process in which. an Impartial
thIrd party helps the cuntendlllg parties exchange views and explore possible options for
resolvlllg the conflict and to help partIes reach theIr own mutually-acceptable settlement
of issues in dispute; and
WHEREAS, the Wheat Ridge Police Department utilIzes mediatIon and
facilitation services in a variety of situations including animal nuisance Issues; code
enforcement issues, neighborhood disputes; board mediation servIces and facIlitation,
landlord-tenant disputes and in certain domestIc issues; and
WHEREAS, the Wheat Ridge City CouncIl supports the use of facIlitation
services. as deemed appropriate by the Community Development Department, III land use
cases.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Wheat Ridge, Colorado:
A. The Wheat Ridge City Council supports the use of facilItation services in
land use cases when deemed appropriate by Community Development
Department.
B. The Wheat RIdge CIty Council supports the continued use offacilitation
and mediation services by the Wheat Ridge Pohce Department when
appropriate.
